Parental commitment seen from the perspective of parents’ associations
Members of the boards of directors of parents’ associations candidly expressed what drives them to get involved in the Francophone schools of B.C. From one parent to another, from one region to another, the needs differ, but the motivation is the same.
The Fédération des parents, which is at the very heart of the province’s parents’ movement, has a mandate to bring together, represent, and equip parents’ associations. The Fédération wanted to highlight the people behind the many activities and projects implemented within schools to improve the educational experience of children in various Francophone communities in the province.
From the first steps in opening a regional Francophone school, to representing the interests of the school’s families, to organizing cultural activities that offer children and families opportunities to have fun in French and build relationships, the parents involved in an APÉ contribute to the development of the community and ensure its vitality and continuity.
